Besso

Next door to A.I.R, in a secluded ski-in ski-out hideaway, is this traditional mountain villa also know as a Besso 別荘.

The Besso is a self contained accommodation that will open for the first time in 23/24 winter season. We are currently accepting reservations.

Disclaimer: It is important to note that the house is very old and lacks creature comforts of modern building, however it makes up for this in charm. The accommodation is located a short (50 meter) walk up the ski run from A.I.R. and therefore access to the cabin is slightly restrictive during snowy weather. The Besso has been fully renovated, however we are opening the accommodation this season as a work in progress and are therefore we are offering it at a discounted rate.

The house will be hosted by A.I.R. meaning pick-ups and drop-offs from the station are included and concierge service will be met but the A.I.R. team.

We look forward to sharing Besso with you.

About Besso

The villa was originally built by an affluent ceramic art appraiser from Tokyo. Found in a state of disrepair, we are meticulously restoring it to it’s original and authentic condition.

Traditional architectural elements include exposed hashira beams 柱, kuri horse chestnut floor boards 栗材, a traditional irori hearth 囲炉裏, tatami washitsu 和室 attached to a spacious engawa sitting room 縁側 which looks over the mountain and ski run.

Additional to the restoration, to achieve modern luxury, comfort and sustainability requirements, various additional high tech solutions have been installed. Instead of replacing the old with the new, these additions have been designed to work in conjunction and discreetly with the original structure and materials. This includes highest grade double glazing windows on top of the heritage float glass sliding windows and doors and a heat-pump water/heating system. Stage one of the structural restoration have been completed and we are currently working on the interior bespoke fit-out.
